REMEMBRANCE

When I am gone,

Please remember me

As a heartfelt laugh,

As a tenderness.

Hold fast to the image of me

When my soul was on fire,

The light of love shining

Through my eyes.

Remember me

When I was singing

And seemed to know my way.

Remember always

When we were together

And time stood still.

Remember most

Not what I did,

Or who I was --

Oh please remember me

For what I always

Desired to be:

A smile on the face of God.

The promise of redemption

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.

There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early. The heathen raged, the kindgoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.

Come, behold the works of the Lord, what desolations he hath made in the earth. He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire.

Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.

Psalm 46

Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freedom and then lost it, have never known it again.

In which I poach my palate on a pickle at The Penguin

Saw it on Triple D: The Penguin Drive-In in Charlotte, North Carolina.

It's been there since time out of mind.

They had me at fried pickles, which Guy Fieri sampled on the show. One of The Penguin's signature Off The Chain Appetizers.

TG and I were passing through Charlotte last Saturday and it was lunchtime.

Yes, we planned it that way.

The place was jammed. There are only about a dozen tables and maybe a half-dozen booths to begin with.

All full up. So we sat at the counter and it was fun because you could see everything that was going on. Plus there was a big-screen TV and TG got to watch a football game.

We ordered the pickles and our beverages. While the pickles were being prepared we got our Cokes, which came in souvenir cups.

The pickles were set before us and I dove right in, immediately suffering a first-degree burn to the roof of my mouth.

I'm not sure if it was me who wouldn't let go of the pickle or the pickle that wouldn't let go of me.

Hurts so good.

The best pickles were the smaller ones that had been cut a bit thicker. I dragged them through the ranch dip and, well, I am still dreaming about the tartangy hotness of those crunchy creamy morsels.

Although they serve barbecue, I ordered chicken tenders. One of my favorite things in the world is chicken tenders with French fries.

This is what fried bliss tastes like.

TG had a burger and he seemed to enjoy it very much. At any rate there was only a crumpled napkin left in his basket. He ate part of one of my chicken tenders too.

Replete, we headed for the hills.

And that is all for now.

Merry Christmas!

What a neat place! LOL, I like how you two plan your "passing through" trip.

Yes, you are a "magical" Passing Through trip planner!! You would have made a great cruise director! =: ) And BTW, I haven't found anything "greasy" in my mailbox.

@ Mari ... surely you jest! You'll have to email Guy and suggest a D, D, or a D that he visit! That's how he decides where to go!

@Donna ... not a fried pickle to be found in your neck o' the woods? Maybe you should make them yourself with those made culinary skills of yours!

@Donna M. ... yeah girl, you know the first thing we check out is where to go eat!

@Glenda ... guess what, they won't sell you fried pickles to go! There's a sign posted! It's because they don't stay crunchy. You have to eat 'em on site. Guess you'll have to make the trip!

Great planning should definitely be rewarded with "fried pickles"
