REMEMBRANCE

When I am gone

Please remember me

 As a heartfelt laugh,

 As a tenderness.

 Hold fast to the image of me

When my soul was on fire,

The light of love shining

Through my eyes.

Remember me when I was singing

And seemed to know my way.

Remember always

When we were together

And time stood still.

Remember most not what I did,

Or who I was;

Oh please remember me

For what I always desired to be:

A smile on the face of God.

You Want To Find This
The Promise Of Redemption

Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;

But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.

For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;

Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;

Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.

For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.

So then death worketh in us, but life in you.

We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I BELIEVED, AND THEREFORE HAVE I SPOKEN; we also believe, and therefore speak;

Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.

For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.

For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

II Corinthians 4

Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freedom and then lost it, have never known it again.

O Holy Night: Josh Groban

And here, as promised, is Josh ... singing my favorite Christmas hymn.

~:~:~:~:~

Let the Stable Still Astonish

Let the stable still astonish;

Straw-dirt floor, dull eyes,

Dusty flanks of donkeys, oxen;

Crumbling, crooked walls;

No bed to carry that pain.

And then, the child, rag-wrapped

And laid to cry in a trough.

Who would have chosen this?

Who would have said: "Yes,

Let the God of all the heavens

and earth be born here, in this place"?

Who but the same God

Who stands in the darker, fouler rooms

of our hearts and says, "Yes ...

Let the God of Heaven and Earth

be born here -- in this place."

O Holy Night: Il Divo

TG and I are headed up to North Carolina today, to be with our granddaughter, Melanie Noel, on her fourth birthday (Sunday).

Melanie's mom, dad, and sister -- baby Allissa! -- are a big draw too.

Melly was born on the shortest day of the year ... meaning, on Monday the days will begin getting longer! That is something to rejoice about ... and so is this riveting performance of O Holy Night by Il Divo.

In a word: smooth.

Oh, and ... turn up the bass and the volume as high as you dare.

It's no secret I am a big fan of this group, and you will be too if you're not already, and if you enjoy classical crossover, and if you listen to them for very long! Their new album, The Promise, is in my opinion their best ... and I should know because I have memorized their previous offerings, namely Il Divo, Ancora, Siempre, and The Christmas Collection.

The title track is definitive Il Divo, but all eleven songs on this record are fantastic. Their arrangements and orchestration, always wonderful, this time are truly stellar. Besides The Promise (La Promessa), my favorites from the CD are The Power of Love, Enamorado, and Amazing Grace.

Just so you know!

Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of The Promise to enjoy in your car and at home during the long winter months ahead. Besides being beautiful, I think you will find it lush, romantic, thrilling, dramatic, and most inspiring.

Oh, and ... turn up the bass and the volume as high as you dare.

Without further ado I give you Carlos Marin, David Miller, Sébastien Izambard, and Urs Bűhler ... collectively and divinely known as Il Divo ... singing O Holy Night as only four young, charming, handsome, talented, sophisticated, classically trained, Armani-clad men can do.

Merry Christmas and Happy Weekend, everyone!

O Holy Night: Celine Dion

Mucho Caliente!

We seem to have foregone what passes for even our meager, weak-willed version of "winter" and gone straight to spring here in South Carolina.

Daytime highs throughout this week are predicted to remain in the mid to high 70s.  We're enjoying balmy breezes, short sleeves, open sunroofs, and nonexistent heating bills ... only thing is, it's so muggy that my central air conditioning is once again humming away.

A few more days of this and the dogwoods will be blooming ... or at least a brave crocus.  That will look funny with the Christmas lights.

So to keep the Christmas spirit on the front burner where it belongs, here is the incredible Celine Dion with a breathtaking and characteristically dramatic rendition of O Holy Night.  She's pretty cool.

Merry *fans self* Christmas!

A Southern Christmas

Let's take a wee break from YouTubes of O Holy Night, shall we, mah dears?

It's been warm and muggy here in the Midlands of South Carolina (yesterday I briefly used the central air conditioning), but nevertheless, as it does every single year, Christmas has come to our house.

Today a very sweet and talented Christian lady sent me an email and we got to chatting in cyberspace, as it were. She relayed that her family are under a great deal of stress this holiday season, with some life-changing decisions looming in their immediate future. She asked me to pray for her, as she admits to a tendency to indulge in worry.

"Longsuffering" is his middle name.

As usual I took the opportunity to impart special wisdom to my friend. I quote myself: "... don't worry about a thing! Remember that as long as you or one of your loved ones are not confined to a hospital bed or, worse yet, wearing a toe tag, it's all good."

So late this evening, in the interest of taking my own excellent advice, I decided not to type any more sworn testimony in this calendar day. I'm on schedule and it will all get done. I grabbed my camera and began taking pictures of things that remind me it's Christmas, a time to rejoice, not a time to worry or fret.

Here I share with you various images of our tree and what adorns it, some decorations, early gifts from Erica to me (a mug with a pithy message) and to Javier (a Christmas sweater), and of course Javier himself, humoring us for as long as it took to get the photos! "Longsuffering" is his middle name.

If you hover your mouse over each picture, a caption will appear!

If you click on any picture, it will take you to the album on Slide.

Merry Christmas, y'all!

O Holy Night: Michael Crawford

To me he will always be The Phantom of the Opera, but Michael Crawford's ethereal voice is perfect for a song such as O Holy Night.  I'm pretty sure he holds out the last note longer than anybody!  And check out the darling children who join Michael in this great performance with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

Merry Christmas!
