Bronze magnolias

On the grounds of the South Carolina State House in Columbia is a massive bronze statue placed in honor of the many South Carolina women who served the Confederacy with unfailing loyalty and dedication during the dark years of the War between the States.
There's lots of flowery prose on plaques all around the statue's base ... for example:
At clouded dawn of peace they faced the future undismayed by problems and fearless of trials in loving effort to heal their country's wounds and with conviction that from the ashes of ruin would come resurrection of truth with glorious vindication.
I love that. I'm all about vindication, glorious or otherwise.
There is a wealth of amazing detail to be found on the statue, which depicts a seated woman being crowned with laurel leaves by an angel with huge wings unfurled, witnessed by cherubs.
I took a picture of the whole statue from a distance, but it didn't turn out. It was crooked or something; I don't know. I blame the humidity.
Since South Carolina may have to secede again before it's over, I thought this was relevant. President Joe Wilson has a nice ring to it.
Happy Monday!

President Rick Perry sounds pretty good here, too!!
Pretty statue!
Happy Monday Girl!
hughugs
Probably all the heat waves rising from the ground spoiled your long-distance picture, ha. This is fine craftsmanship and you did a great job.
There have been rumors of seceding states for years, but in my lifetime that idea has never been more of a possibility than it is now. It would surely be a big mess for everyone. President Chris Christie?
Now this is an angel I'd love to play in Photoshop with. Beautiful
LOVE those pictures! Just beautiful lil angel!
Donna, that does sound good! Of course, the village idiot would be better than what we've got! LOLOL
Debbie ... I should really go back and take that statue's pic in the daytime! But I like the look of the bronze against the black! And I agree with you: secesh redux is probably not an option. But in my weaker moments ...
Irene ... girl you have my permission to take and do with that angel what you will. If you want a clean copy without my name on it, shoot me an email and it's yours.
Crystal ... he is cute, isn't he? Thanks for stopping by!
One of my treasured pictures from our DC trip last September is of Jeff and me in Joe Wilson's office, with his "wall of fame" behind us.
Those statue photos are wonderfully dramatic. If you have more of them, I think they would make a great framed collage.
Sue, I saw that picture! I'm so glad you stopped by to see JW while you were in DC. I just may take you up on the collage idea! I can go back and get more/better pics!
