Snappy New Year

I hope your new year has gone more smoothly so far than mine.
Allow me to elaborate.
On New Year's Eve, I noticed the tiniest twinge of congestion in my chest.
In my experience that is not a good sign.
I hugged my pillow at 11:10 p.m. and was sound asleep by 11:11 p.m. I was not aware of 2023 peeking over the battlements.
On New Year's Day, I felt mostly sort of okay until the evening.
(I didn't go anywhere. I have not left the house since Christmas Day.)
By the next day -- last Monday -- I was in bad shape.
Although I had an illness similar to this in November of 1989, and I was struck down with a mean-spirited flu virus in January of 2018, I don't remember a time in my life when I have been sick for ten whole days in a row.
Today is the first day that I feel significantly better.
And I'm so glad about that, that I'll celebrate by boring you no longer.
The picture above was taken at PNC Park -- home of the Pittsburgh Pirates -- in late October last year.
I'll tell you the rest of the story about that trip, later in the week.
Meanwhile I hope you're healthy, happy, and pursuing your dreams with all the pluck and insouciance you can muster.
That's what I plan to do, as soon as I take a nap.
And that is all for now.

Happy Monday

Hello Jenny,
Sending GET WELL prayers.
I was struck down in 2018 with the same thing you describe, it was the worst EVER that I had been ill.
Please pray for our Sam, a bout of food poisoning is at Camp Lemonnier. Thank you!! xx oo Carla
I'm so sorry you were so sick. I don't know what is going around but it knocked the big guy down for the two weeks before Christmas. I've never seen him feel bad for that long. Continue to rest. Hugs for recovery. BTW that is a wonderful picture of you!! Can't wait to hear about that trip.
I'm so glad you are better, but WAIT! Did you see a doctor? Were you diagnosed? How did you get treated? NOT BORING!
That's a great picture of the pirate in a fitting spot!
I'm so glad you are finally feeling better. Go ahead and take a nap or two, you need it to fully recover!
@Carla ... Ugh then you know exactly what I mean! It's a hard row to hoe. I'm so sorry about the food poisoning in Sam's midst. I pray he does not get it or that if he has already done so, it's over! xoxo
@Lori ... I'm sorry to hear that about the big guy! If he felt anything like I did, I know he never wants to see a repeat of this cold and flu and whatever season! Hope you're well and happy too! Thanks and I'll sure fill you in on the details of our Pittsburgh idyll. xoxo
@Ginny ... hahahaha so you want the gory details! Well, I did not actually "see" the doctor. I was too sick to GO anywhere, much less to the doctor, but that's not why I didn't go. I figured I'd be better in about three days from onset of symptoms but when three days had elapsed, I took a decided turn for the worse. Thinking that what I had was a virus, I figured I just had to wait it out. Plus, it was by then the weekend again. But when I did talk to my doctor via a phone appointment, he agreed with what I suspected based on how I felt and how my throat looked: I had strep throat. As I mentioned above, I believe I have had it one other time in my life -- in 1989. I didn't see a doctor that time either, haaha! If you've ever shone a flashlight into a throat infected with strep, you won't soon forget the sight. And the pain is unbelievable. But by the time I could talk to my health care provider today, I was feeling a lot better and we agreed that I should keep monitoring the condition of my throat and if it continues to heal, we'll skip the antibiotics. I don't want to take antibiotics unless I have to. I'm pretty sure the worst is in the rear view but it was a bumpy ride! I hope that you and your beloved are well, warm, and having a happy new year! xoxo
@Mari ... Haaahaha thanks, I felt right at home at Pirates stadium! Yes this illness was a hard experience. I almost called you once but I thought, what's to talk about? I know what's wrong and it will eventually run its course. I still can't believe how long it took, though! I hope all of you are having a happy January and that you're warm and cozy! xoxo
Happy New Year. I am sorry you were so sick, but am glad you're on the mend now.
I’m so sorry to hear about the illness. I feel as though I’ve been surrounded by sick people the last few months. Praying you continue to improve.
On another note, my son-in-law is a huge Pirates fan. His grandfather (or great grandfather?) played for them. I’ll have to ask again!
@Jane ... thank you my friend! Happy New Year to you and Janna and Wayne and all the critters xoxo
@Bijoux ... isn't that the truth? Such an awful flu season; I'm glad it's not like this every year. WOW a Pirates fan with a relative who played for them? Cool! I love it! That is a beautiful ballpark xoxo
So sorry you were so sick.
Please read my last post.
Much Love
Oh Sweetheart...I'm so sorry you've been ill!
Get better soon!!!
hugs
Donna
Oh what a awful way to start the new year! I'm glad you are feeling better now though and look forward to hearing about your trip!
Oh, Oh... this was the year for that awful flu.. It really has flattened a lot of my friends this winter. I'm so very glad you are feeling better. I think my son had it, but he's so incredibly stubborn he won't go to any doctors unless his arm fell off. I'm not sure he is significantly better yet... Men... incredibly hard to tell when he is "fine" and then ten seconds later he's moaning like a dying calf... then ten seconds later he's "fine.." Have a lovely New Year....
@Gayla ... To be honest I did not "go" to the doctor either ... I was too sick to go anywhere, We did a tele-appointment and the diagnosis was confirmed but it was not until I was in the last few days of the illness. When I'm sick like that I know that it will pass and I am patient. I don't like taking antibiotics and my healthcare provider is very conservative so we opted for rest and watching to see if the antibiotic would really be needed. Which it wasn't. But it felt like a long haul. I'm sorry your son was so sick but men are strange creatures when unwell, aren't they? Haaahahaha xoxo
Oh, it sounds like you were very ill, Jenny. Since I already read your post about the soup party, I know you are now well. I normally don't see a Dr either if I think an illness will just run its course. I don't like taking antibiotics.
@Barb ... I'm sorry it's taken me so long to see your comments, my friend! I was thrown off big time by that trip and various things going on last week. Yes I can only remember a handful of times in my life when I have been that sick. It was awful and the recovery time was longer than I would have liked. My health care provider (he's a nurse practitioner) is very conservative and holistic, and would not have prescribed an antibiotic even if I'd wanted to take one. It was rough but I have no need to be a hero when I'm sick! I stay quiet and rest a lot and drink fluids and take the time to get well. xoxo
