Saturday Snapshots: Southern by the grace of God

On my way out of Orangeburg last Thursday, headed home after a long and somewhat trying day of depositions, I spotted this once-magnificent antebellum mansion sitting just yards from the main thoroughfare.
Not exactly Twelve Oaks, but still.
She's being choked by weeds and other jungle-strength overgrowth. She's baking and flaking in the merciless sun. She's crumbling like a stale cookie.
It's depressing.
I decided to memorialize her. As I did, I could envision the splendor of her heyday. It made her inevitable decline all the more poignant.
(Tara's Theme played in my mind the whole time. I know; sappy. I can't help it ... I'm nothing if not a romantic.)
Take a moment to admire her and to consider how unapologetically grand she must have been "back in the day."
Now watch a montage from what is arguably the greatest film ever made in any language, and listen to the spellbinding music!

Just gorgeous! I love these old buildings and am sad to see this one crumbling. It really does look like Gone with the Wind.
Magnificent! Oh, the stories that grand home could tell! Thank you for capturing its spirit and sharing it with us!
How grand, how on earth did she get so neglected? Love the music.
How could the owners allow such a place to simply rot away? It's a crime.
