The greatest among you

Speak of the devil

This is going around and no doubt you've seen it but nevertheless, I feel my commentary is needed.
And yes, this is what some (not me) would call a negative post -- not a unicorn in sight, no hand-holding, swaying to the plaintive strains of Kumbaya -- so if that sort of thing gives you a rash, do click out now.
You won't be missed.
My observations about what you just watched:
1. That boy is not from around there.
2. The whole thing was staged. As in, it wasn't the minor female's idea to do this; she was put up to it by an adult. Most likely the one holding the phone, making the video.
3. The street preacher is exercising his right to free speech, a freedom protected by the Constitution.
4. The minor female is doing the same thing.
However.
By screaming over the young man, insulting him and insisting that he shut up, the minor female is being rude, obstreperous, disrespectful, bratty, arrogant, blasphemous, inconsiderate, manipulative, crass, and a whole host of other equally unattractive and wholly inappropriate things.
She's not even a good little actress. Too aware of the camera.
The child needs to be taught manners, respect, decorum, tolerance -- that concept of which the godless left prates endlessly, but knows virtually nothing -- and the rudiments of conducting oneself in public with a modicum of class.
Not to mention First Amendment 101.
To include, yes dear, you have the right to free speech but so does everyone else. The issue of the child's execrable manners aside, she is exercising her right to speak, in order to tell him to shut up. And that's not her right and it's also not right. It's wrong.
You know I've got to say it: If I'd even thought of doing something like that when I was a kid, I would have been in for a whipping I'd not soon forget.
And I would have deserved it.
That's what this kid needs too. Except, for her, I fear it's already too late.
The die is cast. Sad but true.
And that is all for now.
Let's not dilly-dally boys

You've got to love that time-lapse feature on the new iOS8 upgrade.
I don't know how Andrew gets these videos but I hope it's with his GoPro.
However he does it, he manages to text these to me.
Yesterday, on a beautiful morning off the coast of Florida, the boy refueled a string of Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptors. In rapid succession.
The fighter planes had sortied out of Tyndall AFB in Panama City.
Watch closely and you can see Andrew sending two of them back when their position in the envelope was not to his satisfaction.
"Students," he told me.
Yes well you're all American heroes, I thought.
In this second video you can see from the shadows that they're flying in a circle.
That's called the MOA: Military Operations Area. Imagine a big air cylinder and the Stratotanker flies around at the top of it, waiting for the thirsty planes.
Isn't that interesting?

Sno ... what?

A long-standing meteorological record was resoundingly shattered in the midlands of South Carolina this morning.
As in, there was significant snowfall in the area. Measurable inches.
We saw not a flake at our house; it was all rain and wind, and very cold.
But a scant ten miles from our front door, it was another story altogether.
"This has been a historic event," WLTX News19 Meteorologist Daniel Bonds said. "It's unprecedented. I've run out of adjectives to describe it."
Yeah. You can only say "the white stuff" so many times.
TG saw the snow blanketing the ground as he went about his errands.
He brought me pictures on his iPad.
Until today, the earliest snowfall recorded in Columbia stood at nearly one hundred and one years ago: November 9, 1913.
Dagny slept through the whole thing, then came to see me.
We are warm and snug and looking forward to sunshine tomorrow.
Don't forget to Fall Back.
And that is all for now.
