Kitten in the kitchen
Current situation: kitten.
As in, when TG went outside to fire up the grill on the Fourth of July, he found a single tiny mewling kitten in the area between our deck and a door leading into the garage.
She'd been abandoned. We searched for hours for her mother and siblings. Not a whisker was to be found.
Rizzo had been eyeing an area between the deck boards, and growling, for a few days. A gray cat has been stalking around our yard for a couple of weeks.
I reasoned that these clues added up to a stray cat having produced a litter of kittens under our deck.
But if that's what happened, they're all long gone.
Is "my" kitten the runt of the litter? Probably.
Since that evening, before the fireworks began, she's been occupying Javier's old crate.
Dagny supplied her with a small stuffed toy. TG went to the store for kitten replacement formula.
Here's my dilemma: accept the fact that I'm now a cat owner, with all that that shocking idea implies, or find her a loving home amongst our friends and acquaintances, or pay for a no-kill shelter to accept her for adoption.
I am leaning toward no one of these solutions.
I have no idea what to do.
Perhaps someone can help me decide.
Cast your votes below. Keep? Give away? Be extorted by the local no-kill shelter?
Meanwhile, the kitten has a name. I use it frequently when bottle-feeding her.
It's Velvet.
And that is all for now.

I'm owned by seven cats so my vote would be to keep her but you could also look around for a feral cat rescue who will take her, they are usually better than even no-kill shelters.
If you've named her, she's yours. Because you're bottle feeding her, she'll be devoted to you for life (as devoted as cats are able to be...). Also, keep in mind that cats live a LONG time. As an alternative, surely someone in your circle of acquaintances "needs" a kitty. Meanwhile, I assume she must be fed around the clock - good practice for when the grandbaby is born.
@Jane ... I may look into that; I guess I was under the impression that feral cat organizations were interested only in feral cats. Maybe I need to educate myself more on what feral cats are, haahaha ... total dog person here. I hear "feral" and I envision wild and untamable creatures that run in packs and must be avoided at all costs. Thanks for stopping by and much obliged for your input! xoxo
@Barb ... I know, right? She does feel like "mine" but I'm scared because I just have no idea what owning a cat entails. And believe me, we are looking for someone who "needs" her far more than I do! Yes to grandbaby practice! xoxo
Awww! This is quite the situation you find yourself in.
My vote is to keep Velvet. You've already saved her, you named her. I think you are going to get more attached, and will find out how fun a cat can be. And hopefully Javier will agree!
I'll be waiting to hear what the final decision is. :)
It’s been named!! Old Indian lore specifically states...Once you give a spirit a name...it belongs to you! It has a spirit...it now has a name. ♥️
It was sent to you...🐾

@Mari ... I knew you'd say that! And I know you meant Rizzo, haaahaha ... he doesn't mind Velvet at all but poor dead Javier wouldn't have abided this. His old crate sure has come in handy, though, haaahaha! xoxo
@Donna ... Well that settles it! Ordering cat litter pan as we speak, haaahaaha xoxo
Goodness gracious, Jenny. The same thing has happened here at my daughter's house. Only a few days after Hopper Henry passed away, a mama cat and FOUR kittens found their way here. Now there are two kittens (don't know where the other two are). Patti has grown to love them, now she's at Britt's and I'm home, t's my JOB to feed them. LOL
The thing is, I've never been a fan of cats mostly because I'm allergic, and also because we never had them when growing up.
I have zero advice for you dear lady, but if my daughter brings those cats in the house, I'm moving. :)
xoxo
Go Donna!
@Sally ... I HEAR YOU! Haaaha not a cat person here ... but Velvet is SO adorable, I don't know anymore ... but I do feel for you and your new "job" ... haahaaha xoxo
@Sydney ... if it was sent to me, I can send it to you, haaahaha ... I know where you live ... xoxo!!
I'm old - Javier is still with me! Hope Rizzo forgives me for this. :)
@Mari ... nothing to forgive of a friend as dear (and old, haahaa) as you. Besides, Rizzo's easy as long as there's kibble and a lap. xoxo
