A Pistol With One Shot

Ecstatically shooting everything in sight using my beloved Nikon D3100 with AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G VR kit lens and AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 G prime lens.

Also capturing outrageous beauty left and right with my Nikon D7000 blissfully married to my Nikkor 85mm f/1.4D AF prime glass. Don't be jeal.

And then there was the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f:3.5-5.6G ED VR II zoom. We're done here.

REMEMBRANCE

When I am gone

Please remember me

 As a heartfelt laugh,

 As a tenderness.

 Hold fast to the image of me

When my soul was on fire,

The light of love shining

Through my eyes.

Remember me when I was singing

And seemed to know my way.

Remember always

When we were together

And time stood still.

Remember most not what I did,

Or who I was;

Oh please remember me

For what I always desired to be:

A smile on the face of God.

You Want To Find This
The Promise Of Redemption

Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;

But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.

For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;

Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;

Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.

For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.

So then death worketh in us, but life in you.

We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I BELIEVED, AND THEREFORE HAVE I SPOKEN; we also believe, and therefore speak;

Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.

For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.

For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

II Corinthians 4

THE DREAMERS

In the dawn of the day of ages,
 In the youth of a wondrous race,
 'Twas the dreamer who saw the marvel,
 'Twas the dreamer who saw God's face.

On the mountains and in the valleys,
By the banks of the crystal stream,
He wandered whose eyes grew heavy
With the grandeur of his dream.

The seer whose grave none knoweth,
The leader who rent the sea,
The lover of men who, smiling,
Walked safe on Galilee --

All dreamed their dreams and whispered
To the weary and worn and sad
Of a vision that passeth knowledge.
They said to the world: "Be glad!

"Be glad for the words we utter,
Be glad for the dreams we dream;
Be glad, for the shadows fleeing
Shall let God's sunlight beam."

But the dreams and the dreamers vanish,
The world with its cares grows old;
The night, with the stars that gem it,
Is passing fair, but cold.

What light in the heavens shining
Shall the eye of the dreamer see?
Was the glory of old a phantom,
The wraith of a mockery?

Oh, man, with your soul that crieth
In gloom for a guiding gleam,
To you are the voices speaking
Of those who dream their dream.

If their vision be false and fleeting,
If its glory delude their sight --
Ah, well, 'tis a dream shall brighten
The long, dark hours of night.

44 Hours In North Carolina

You have my solemn promise that I'm Having A Thought Here isn't going to become a grandma blog (all evidence to the contrary), but on Sunday I went to see my grandkids, y'all.  Melanie had those tube thingies put into her li'l ears on Monday. Erica went with me so that she could accompany Stephanie and Melanie to Winston-Salem for the procedure.  I willingly babysat Allissa.  True to form, I took lots of pictures.

I'm home now and I will do my best to put up a proper post tomorrow. Check back, 'k?

(We got back home Tuesday night but it's been a whirlwind of activity since then.  Tonight we drove 90 miles to Darlington, South Carolina, to hear our nephew preach at the church where he has recently become an assistant pastor.  It was good to see him and his sweet family but can you believe ... I forgot to take my camera with me.  I wish you could have seen the basket of uniquely southern foods Erica and I put together for my nephew and his wife and children.  They have been living in Ohio and don't know how to eat.  We included RC Cola, boiled peanuts, molasses, grits, chow-chow relish, and lots of other goodies.)

I didn't have Internet access while I was gone to North Carolina except to approve kind comments on my previous post. For that I used my son-in-law's laptop in his office after church on Sunday night (he is a pastor) and since I don't own a laptop and am not used to the keyboard (which seems very tiny to me), that simple task took four times longer than it would have otherwise. It was actually comical (sort of) the way my left pinky finger kept hitting "Escape" when what I wanted was an exclamation point!  Patience is not my strong suit but I persevered.

I'm home now and I will do my best to put up a proper post tomorrow. Check back, 'k?

Meantime, just in case you'd like to see the new photos of my baby girls, just watch the slide show ...

Are you sure? This is starting to sound suspiciously like a grandma blog...

July 24, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterdon

Welcome back! Darling picture of the baby, love those eyes. I'm heading down to NC next weekend to visit my darling little one, so I hear you about the Grandma blog :-) Hey we earned this prestigious title though and wear it with pride and much love.

July 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterElaine

@ Don ... and an aunt blog too, apparently ...

@ Elaine ... ooohh, another visit with Cora for you! How wonderful! We certainly did earn the prestigious title and I know you enjoy it as much as I do!

July 24, 2008 | Registered CommenterJennifer

I like the fact your writing is eclectic. Mom blog, grandma blog, humor blog, slice of life blog...

It's all good!

July 24, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterkev

Why thanks, Kev! I adore the diversity of your blog writing as well! You are many varieties of awesome.

July 24, 2008 | Registered CommenterJennifer

Personally, I'm a big fan of hearing about your grandgirls, and the pictures take the cake. They are stinkin' ADORABLE. :)

July 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAngi

Thanks Angi! They are precious girls. I'm glad I don't have to raise them, though ... I had four of my own but I still don't know how my daughter does it. She's got so much on her plate being a pastor's wife. Fortunately she's young and strong and determined ... and she leans on the Lord.

July 24, 2008 | Registered CommenterJennifer

Cute cute! Those big eyeses. Wouldn't it be nifty if, whenever something wasn't available -- cable TV, the internet, the dentist -- we'd see pictures of babies and puppies and kittens instead?

July 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterP.L. Frederick

Babehs! Puppehs! Kittehs! Absolewtly, PL!

July 24, 2008 | Registered CommenterJennifer

I thought you'd been silent lately.

Very cute photos. I'm glad you had some grandma time.

July 24, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterRuth Hull Chatlien

Ruth, girl, if I am silent I am dead! LOL! My daughter and son-in-law don't have a computer in the house and since I don't own a laptop, for all intents and purposes I'm incommunicado when I visit them! It feels strange sometimes and I miss all my blogging buddies such as you.

July 24, 2008 | Registered CommenterJennifer

Love the pictures! What big, beautiful eyes!

Might I ask: what is chow-chow relish?

July 25, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterRJ Keller

Hi RJ! Thanks luv.

Chow-chow is a classic southern condiment made from cabbage, onion, sweet pepper, vinegar and pickling spices. It's delicious in any recipe such as potato salad or tuna salad where you'd normally use pickle relish. It's so yummy to put a huge dollop of chow-chow on a bowl of butter beans. Add a chunk of cornbread and you are, as they say, there.

Purists make their own chow-chow from family recipes but I'm way too lazy to do that so I buy it at the grocery store!

July 25, 2008 | Registered CommenterJennifer

hey, what fun is life if you can't brag on your grandbabies? And I don't even have any yet. Wow that girl has some big pretty eyes! I used to LOVE boiled peanuts in a can, a girlfriend from GA got me hooked. Then when we went to GA and my step-dad bought me fresh ones at a roadside stand, I hated them! Guess I liked the slimy formaldehyde type substance in the can!

Thanks for your kind comments on my blog. I'm sorry if I brought up bad memories, but Praise God He was able to ease her pain! My situation was the opposite, once I GOT a step-dad is when my life improved cataclysmically.

July 25, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterrosezilla

@ Rosezilla ... hey girl, thank you for saying that but no apologies are necessary. We've got victory in Jesus and sometimes it's good to talk about where He's brought us from.

Away from the mire and away from the clay/God leads His dear children along/Away up in glory, eternity's day/God leads His dear children along. Amen. It's all good, darling.

I'm so glad that your step-dad improved your life. Oddly, as bad an egg as ours was, he taught me many things that have helped me to be a more productive person. So see ... God is in, around, and through all things and all events. He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.

Now, I buy them goobers in a bag because I think the canned ones look gross! I think it's so funny that you like them! I love the roadside boiled variety ... thanks for reading, luvvy!

July 25, 2008 | Registered CommenterJennifer

Aw ... 'Zzzzz'and the 'flaked out' pic are both so precious! And Melly and her Mom smiling - they're so pretty, both of them!

July 25, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJay

@ Jay ... thanks dear! I never tire of looking at all my girls, in photos or in person! I sometimes feel it is an embarrassment of riches.

July 25, 2008 | Registered CommenterJennifer

Aw! The girls are so sweet. And RC Cola is a "Southern" thing? We have some in our fridge right now! I've never had boiled peanuts, tho. Would you make ME a "Southern Foods Care Basket"???

July 27, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJD at I Do Things

Well JD, RC Cola started in Georgia, just like Coca-Cola did! But to be honest, what I really wanted for the basket was Moon Pies to go with the RC Cola ... now that's truly a southern combination! But can you believe, I went to three stores and couldn't find a single Moon Pie? It's a travesty. Something must be done ... so I thought of substituting Cheerwine for the RC but I got lazy and left the RC in ... and yes, of COURSE I'll make you a Southern Foods Care Basket!

July 27, 2008 | Registered CommenterJennifer

Just the thought of your yummy basket makes my mouth water!
Your baby girls are beautiful, and who wouldn't brag if they were in your fashionable, but sensible shoes? Brag away, honey, all you want. I enjoy reading!

July 28, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKeli

Keli, that basket did look good. I could have drank the molasses ... I love molasses! Thanks for looking at my darling babies ... I figure everyone deserves at least one doting grandma and my girls are very fortunate to have two!

I appreciate you, dear. Love your blog.

July 28, 2008 | Registered CommenterJennifer

Sounds like a great whirlwind visit. I love your slideshow! I just signed up for Slide.

Our condo in Myrtle doesn't have Internet. Maybe in the lobby. I've written down the addresses of the Starbucks, Panera's and cafe's that have free wi-fi. I'm feeling the withdrawal already!

I wish we could meet!

I think you'll like Slide, Cheryl! Maybe you can do your Myrtle Beach pics on a slide ... I look forward to it. If I'm going to be anywhere near MB (3-hour drive for me so not likely) I'll send you a quick email!

Jenny,
You've been to the Toledo Zoo in our hometown, and Princess Gail and I were in Winston-Salem July 20 - 22! You were there on the 23rd. We practically tripped over each other! I was looking at a probable job at the Forsyth Medical Center. Small world moments!!

July 29, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterFerd

Ferd, I know exactly where Forsyth Medical Center is! I sure hope this works out for you if it's what you and the Princess want! Maybe we'll bump into one another some fine day when we least expect it! For it is indeed a small world.
