She bit the butter but the butter bit back

Photo courtesy of Food NetworkI guess you've heard tell of Paula Deen's troubles this past week, what with The Lady coming clean about being not so healthy for the past three years.
DIE-A-BEE-TEASE, y'all.
The big D.
Not for the wimpy of gizzard.
You let that thing go, you start losing toes and it's not exactly a week at the seashore.
Chef Deen's got a penchant for butter so prodigious, they say a single bite of one of her richest "best dishes" gives your body all the fat grams it needs for an entire month.
Indulge in that fashion for long and next thing you know, you're bellied up to a fried-cheesecake buffet and it's all you can eat and you think you've died and gone straight to heaven, skipping purgatgory altogether ... except then you glance around and who's loading up a plate beside you but the Grim Reaper himself.
Which is why after hearing the news, I pureed my printout of Paula's killer Crock Pot Mac 'n Cheese recipe and back-burnered several more bookmarked PD butter-rific concoctions (a few of which we sampled over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays).
Then TG and I stocked up on spinach and broccoli and carrots and celery and peppers and cucumbers and whatnot.
Because hear me: butter is addictive. You don't want to become a butter junkie like Paula. Naw, huh-uh.
But there's still Tavin Dillard and his unbeatable butter philosophy, in which I've yet to find a loophole.
Happy Monday!
I send y'all love ... and hot buttered baby green peas.

I'm making a big poster and putting it up in the kitchen and here is what it will say: DIABETES HIGHWAY........The road to heart disease, blindness, kidney failure, and amputations. Travel at your own risk!!!
I come from a household that never used margarine. I use butter. My mom is 92 no sign of diabetes. so I'm not entirely sold on the connection. I think the excessive amounts of booze contributes to my husband's side of the family's diabetes. So what to do, well I'll just put some butter on my toast. I hope you have a secret copy of her mac and cheese. If we indulge just at Christmas and Thanksgiving, I think it's o.k. Love the video. Have a great week.
Yep...guess she's made her fortune and doesn't care what the future brings as far as sales are concerned. We also use real butter in our household. I will Not put that plastic stuff called margarine in my mouth...but we use it sensibly. Remember the egg? One month it's good for you, the next it's horrible...
Moderation in all things....

This video CRACKED ME UP!!!!! I loved his facial expressions, lolol!!!!!! And as for Paula Dean...I've never had any of her cooking but I sure would like to know how she gets those teeth so darn white, lol!!!! I love butter too but nah, not taking a chance cause I like me some pancakes and biscuits a little too much too;)
Do you have 'I can't believe it's not butter' in USA ?
Contrary to popular belief, eating butter or sugar does not cause diabetes.
If you develop diabetes as a result of heredity or failure of your pancreas to produce the proper amount of insulin (or no insulin at all), THEN you need to watch your intake of carbohydrates (which includes starches, sugars) in order to control your blood sugar. Or you may need to take oral medication or eventually insulin by injection.
A balanced diet is always important for anyone, but eating extra butter or sugar will not cause you to develop diabetes.
As I understand it, Paula has had diabetes for a couple of years but did not make it public until she could work out a way to inform the public about proper eating for a diabetes patient.
I hope she takes care of herself, because as you point out -- uncontrolled diabetes has terrible results. You can lose your sight, fingers, toes, legs and even your life.
Debbie
@Glenda ... the road to nutrition is definitely off the beaten path.
@Irene, Donna, and Crystal ... we only use real butter too. I wouldn't dream of using a substitute. I think the trick is to use just enough, and not put a whole stick into every recipe.
@Paul ... yes. And your point is?
@Debbie ... thanks for that information. However I think everybody needs to realize that this post is not a medical bulletin but was supposed to be a funny, sarcastic post designed to make folks laugh and even think a little bit. I am not a doctor. I am not married to a doctor. I am certainly not Paula Deen's doctor. However, I think it's very dangerous to conclude that we can eat anything we want with impunity. Many people with diabetes have turned the disease around by proper nutrition, so it only stands to reason that their diet -- and the resultant obesity -- may have been a factor in their contracting diabetes in the first place. Paula Deen is known to "sneak" loads of extra butter into practically everything. It's her trademark and her signature cooking ingredient. She thinks it's a big joke. Her recipes are dangerously high in unhealthy fats along with tubs of sugar and salt. That can't be good and I for one have a hard time believing that when a 60-something year-old woman who has eaten that way her entire life comes up with diabetes, that the two things are unrelated. But again, I only intended to give a chuckle and not medical advice. Most of my posts are at least somewhat tongue-in-cheek but I guess I don't put it across as well as I thought. Now I'm going to go eat an apple.
