Two cute

Our grandson, Andrew, turned two on Saturday.
He was born on two twenty-two twelve. At two thirteen in the afternoon.
At approximately two fourteen that day I asked begged the doctor who delivered him:
"Can't you fudge that born time to two twelve?"
The answer was as unequivocal as it was unsmiling:
"No."
Killjoy.
It would have been cool, don't you think, for Andrew go around his whole life telling people, "I was born precisely at two twelve on two twenty-two twelve."?
No? You too?
Okay.
Anyway, we met the boy and his peeps at a restaurant in Charlotte to celebrate the darling's big day.
For his present several of us chipped in and bought him a Radio Flyer Classic Red Wagon.
Those things are costly. What in the world?
And if you're planning to deliver a lecture about share how you found a RFCRW cheaper online or got one in perfect condition at a garage sale, save your energy.
We didn't pay a whole Benjamin for it. We were slightly more savvy than that.
Anyway we went into the restaurant and ordered dinner. Later there was cake.
The theme of Andrew's party was Thomas the Tank Engine, a popular figure in children's TV and literature.
You can't see it in that picture, but in addition to the two blue-and-white-striped birthday candles, Stephanie had put a TtTE candle that depicted Thomas hurtling out of a tunnel.
To me it resembled a tombstone. But then, to me, what doesn't?
I admit to a shocking tendency to see them everywhere.
With his Radio Flyer wagon came a pamphlet revealing the number of variations available to folks who want their kids to own wheeled conveyances bearing the iconic RF logo.
I tucked the pamphlet into the blue envelope containing Andrew's Dr. Seuss one-fish two-fish birthday card.
We laughed when he began studying the red paper as though it contained the answer to all -- or at least most -- of life's mysteries.
I pointed it out to Stephanie.
"He's considering all his options," she said.
Later, almost finished partying and having annoyed entertained surrounding diners quite enough, we took it outside.
My grandchildren know to arrange themselves into posing postures, and so of course they did.
Andrew's mouth was still ringed with blue icing. He clutched his sippy cup in one hand and two singles in the other.
And from these photos you may assume he never smiles, but you could not be more wrong.
He is a trifle serious. You have to catch him at the right moment.
But be attentive because he is inclined to go by in a blur.
Just like his life, and mine, and everyone else's.
Enjoy your life today.
And that is all for now.

He is so adorable, and handsome and what beautiful big eyes. Happy Birthday Andrew. My boys loved Thomas too.
I can't believe he's two already! He is just as handsome as ever. :)
It looks like everyone had a good time too!
We think alike. (I know that's no surprise...) I read the time and date of his birth, I thought he should have been born at 2:12. I think the Dr should have fudged it or looked at a different clock!
Sweet.
We gave Elsie a pink Radio Flyer tricycle for Christmas and then Annie said that Gabe needed a red one for his birthday in January, so I kept an eye on Amazon prices till it went down to a price I was willing to pay. They are a ridiculous price, but I have to think they will last better than a cheaper brand.
I feel like we have had this conversation before. I often think that. Hope it's just deja view and not the big A creeping on.
Awww, Happy Birthday little one!! He's SO precious!!!
