Just makes you want to cook something
Ugh. I should have had this post up earlier today.
Pirate apologies; I have been distracted by all the summer activities.
And it isn't even summer yet.
Not only that, but I started a post last Thursday that I never finished.
Hee's a promise: I will finish it by this Thursday. I hope you can wait that long.
Speaking of summer, it still was (but barely) when, in September of 2019, TG and I went to Chicago.
Both on the way there and on the way back, we spent some time in Indianapolis.
We visited Crown Hill Cemetery and Colts Stadium, amongst other places.
On the way to Chicago and on the way home, we stayed at the same all-suites hotel.
The property was immaculate and quiet.
With your room, you got a living room and kitchen.
In said kitchen there was a full-size refrigerator, a small stove, and even a dishwasher.
We didn't really need all of that, but the price was right for the accommodations, and the bed was exquisitely comfortable.
The reason I am telling you this part is that, perched atop the small stove, pretty as could be, was a charming saucepan.
Getting to the bottom of it
It was a stainless steel eight-cup Norpro KRONA. I was instantly smitten by its design and began turning it over in my hands, inspecting all of its angles and attributes.
I mean, it was just so cute. Such adorable proportions.
On the bottom was printed:
KRONA
NORPRO
18/10 STAINLESS STEEL
INOX
ROSTFREI
(Inox is a brand of kitchenware. It turns out that rostfrei is the German word for rust free.)
Even before we got back home, I had ordered one for my kitchen.
My new pan and I bonded as soon as I took it out of the box.
It is just the sort of pan that a pirate should possess.
Its size is great for, say, making a couple (or even three or four) hardboiled eggs, or heating a few portions of soup, or whipping up a sauce, or -- this is my favorite use for it -- making a large serving of oatmeal with strawberries.
The fact that it is taller than it is wide, is an extra bonus. It's fun to stir things in this pan.
In addition, the vented glass lid has a nice spout for pouring off liquids. And the handsome handle stays cool.
Plus -- and this is significant -- I like the look of this pan so much that it lives atop my stove.
I never put it away. It just sits there being extra.
There are two sizes of vents for straining liquid
Maybe you are in a loving relationship with all of your pots and pans, and have no desire to stray into the arms of another, or invite a new one into your life.
But if you are in the market for a new saucepan, one not too big (although it comes bigger, in a twelve-cup version) but with a surplus of style, maybe you will consider getting a Norpro KRONA.
It would make an excellent gift for a new bride, too -- or for anyone who enjoys cooking and all the gear that goes along with it.
At any rate, it's my favorite pan out of all of my pans, and I don't mind telling you that I have had some of those for over forty years.
That about sums it up.
And that is all for now.
