There is a dog in our neighborhood who is never seen on walkies without a huge stick clutched in his jaws.

I love that dog.

And I love this dog (who looks a lot like that dog), although I think he has sort of a meanie for a master.

All's well that ends well I suppose.

SkyWatch Friday: Bronze against the blue

While visiting the campus of Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, last August, I was, shall we say, impressed by the bronze falcon perched menacingly on a granite column a few steps from Stroh Center.

It is believed to be the world's largest bronze falcon.

Its wingspan is twenty-four feet.

Its claws are long too. I bet he pays extra for a manicure.

If the BGSU Falcons meant to intimidate visiting teams by installing this bad boy a few hundred yards from where they play basketball, by my reckoning they have succeeded and then some.

(Too bad it doesn't translate into winning games. Their record this year is 7-13.)

Because even in bronze, this magnificent raptor looks like he means business.
