Allissa and Melanie piled up in my bed with me last Wednesday night to watch a few episodes of Shaun the Sheep.
It's pretty much one of our favorite shows, along with anything involving Wallace & Gromit.
So now you know. We're suckers for the prodigious talents of Nick Park.
Historically we have fed our Shaun the Sheep habit by bringing him up on Netflix.
Only, this time we discovered to our dismay that Netflix no longer streams Shaun the Sheep.
We settled for an episode of Curious George before bed, but I promised the girls that the next day, we'd start fresh and find Shaun the Sheep somewhere online.
So it was that Allissa accosted me on Thursday just as the kitchen was beginning to fill with the fragrance of a Butterball roasting in the oven.
And I was juggling the ingredients and instructions for two separate recipes, hoping I didn't get so confused that I produced cranberry-ginger broccoli and cheddar-cheesy sweet potatoes by mistake.
"Mamaw can we find Shaun the Sheep now," Allissa bleated as though Shaun might be at that very moment roaming the grounds.
"Allissa I am cooking now," I said. "We'll have to do that a little bit later."
She stood her ground.
"But maybe we can find him on the TV," she persisted.
I might have sighed.
"Allissa." I said. "I told you I can't do that right now. You'll have to be patient because I'm sort of busy."
And I told her to move along.
Which she actually started to do. But then she came back.
"Maybe somebody else could look for Shaun the Sheep," she pointed out.
I stopped what I was doing and turned to face her and planted my fists on my hips.
"Allissa. We'll do it but not right this minute. Now go on," I said.
So she did.
Ten minutes later I glanced into the family room. Allissa was occupying her Aunt Erica's lap. They were hunched over Erica's iPad.
"What are y'all doing," I wanted to know.
Erica looked up, half grinning.
"We're looking on here for something for them to do," she said.
"Oh my," I said. "She is being very P-U-S-H-Y today."
I spelled it out, you know how you do.
And no kidding, Allissa spelled right back: "Well we are B-O-R-E-D."
Well played, Lissy Belle. Well played indeed.
